Here are some items you should have in your disaster kit. You can also add items you feel should be included. Get prepared with the right items. See the checklist below.
Important items to stock in your disaster kit include:  Water - Store amounts that are adequate enough for the number of family members or business team. You should have enough to last at least three days.
Food - Keep food in case travel is impossible. Consider amounts that will feed the number of people you are responsible for.
First Aid Kit - This should contain basic first aid items. Extra items should include a blanket, pillow, gloves, and shovel.
Non-Prescription Drugs - If you have prescribed medicine include it in your kit. Be sure to keep any medical records you may need.
Tools and Supplies - You should have a flashlight, lantern, candles, and extra batteries.
Sanitation - Keeping clean is very important. Include toiletries as well as soap.
Clothing and Bedding - In a major disaster, you may need extra clothes.
Entertainment - Long periods without power or resources have a mental effect. Be sure to include some sort of entertainment such as a board game, cards, or relative means of entertainment.
Important Family Documents - Consider securing any important papers that may be destroyed in a disaster. You should always store your wallet, ID's, Social Security cards, and relative information in a secure place. |
