Tropical Storm Bonnie; Gulf of Mexico Unsettled 7.23.2010 @ 2:02P ET
The first eastern hurricane season tropical system is forecasted to move into the Gulf of Mexico tonight as it creates unsettled conditions in the Gulf and portions of the Atlantic coastline in Florida. Swimmers and boaters are urged to take caution in this area as outer bands associated with this tropical system generate choppy conditions and possibly heavy thunderstorms as far east as the Atlantic coastline of Florida.
Tropical Storm Bonnie continues to move to the west-northwest around 20 miles per hour. The latest storm path indicates the center of circulation is forecasted to pass somewhere over the northeastern coastline of Louisiana late Saturday night. National Hurricane Center cones are shown below:
This storm has been producing waves in excess of 10 feet off the Atlantic coastline of Florida and waves higher than 6 feet in the Gulf of Mexico. In the Gulf along and east of the center of circulation waves as high as 15 feet can be expected with some greater significant heights possible. Bonnie is expected to continue traveling west-northwest and remain around the same strength with winds 40-50 miles per hour sustained keeping it below hurricane strength.
